Peer Review Process
Papers are assigned to Editors by the Editor in Chief. Reviewers are chosen by the Editors. Every attempt is made to obtain two reviews of each manuscript.
The Editor will ask advice from members of the Editorial Board when a dispute between reviewers and authors needs to be resolved.
The reviewer can provide comments for the authors, and separate comments to the Editor in the spaces provided.
Please note that after you insert your review (#4) you should go to #6 and select a recommendation which will send the review and complete the process.

About the Journal of Insect Science
The Journal of Insect Science (JIS) publishes papers in all aspects of the biology of insects and other arthropods from the molecular to the ecological, and their agricultural and medical impact. The Journal is published on the World Wide Web by the University of Wisconsin. Our guiding principle is that academic institutions should be involved in publishing scholarly work with as few impediments as possible to free access to information. JIS is free to readers and institutions.
Publication of the journal is supported by author's fees and Entomology Department of the University of Wisconsin.
Copyright is retained by the authors, with limited rights to JIS to publish the papers. JIS uses the Creative Commons Attribution License. The University of Wisconsin Library will maintain JIS archives as part of its Digital Library Initiatives Program
The Journal of Insect Science has an international scope with a broad constituency of scientists interested in the biology of insects and their agricultural and medical impact. The Journal has a number of Editors that guide manuscripts through the review process.
Papers are published as they are accepted and formatted. They appear online at http://insectscience.org, in HTML and PDF formats.
The on-line format makes inclusion of color figures, videos and sound possible. Large data sets, statistical analyses and computerized sequence analyses can be attached to papers.
Published papers are included in PubMed Central and BioOne, which guarantee wide visibility for your paper and provide reference links to full text articles. JIS is indexed by ISI, Medline, Agricola, Index Medicus, CSA, CAB, CAS, BIOSIS, EBSCO, and Academic Info.
The Journal of Insect Science is a "Leading Edge" Partner of SPARC (The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition), which is an association of 180 academic libraries dedicated to encouraging alternatives to commercial publishing of academic work.
Author fees
A fee of $250 will be charged to authors. Details on how to pay the fee will be sent after the paper has been, edited and formatted for publication.
This fee is to be paid from the funds supporting the research, not from personal funds.
JIS understands that not all authors can afford the author's fee. The payment of the fee will be waived on request, no questions asked. The ability to pay the fee will never be a consideration in the decision of whether to publish your paper.
