Figure 3. Feeding colonies with dyed beetle larvae for 24 hours on day zero results in a pulse of dyed brood that passes through development in about a month. The peak in dyed larvae and pharate pupae after about a week (rather than on the first day) suggests that stored beetle pieces are fed to ant larvae over at least a week.
