Only thrips with more than 30 colony forming units were considered to be positive.
The prevalence of thrips with bacteria and the number of thrips with the most occurring type of bacteria were assessed per population and type strains were created.
In 1995, only adults, and in 1998, only second instar larvae were included in the experiment.
