Figure 1. The consensus phylogenetic tree of the 16S rDNA gene of gut bacteria from populations of Frankliniella occidentalis, Thrips tabaci, and of several other species of Enterobacteriacea. The tree is based on at least 1430 bp per sequence and created using parsimony analysis. Buchnera aphidicola was used as outgroup. Bootstrap values over 1000 replicates are mentioned in front of the branches. The names of the type strains of gut bacteria are explained in Table 2. FO indicates the group of DNA sequences belonging to bacteria isolated from Frankliniella occidentalis, TT indicates the DNA samples isolated from bacteria found in Thrips tabaci. The DNA sequence labelled with an asterisk is the only sequence from a Thrips tabaci bacterium which was found in the FO group.
