For both control and experimental groups, a young male and a young female whitefly were placed in a clip cage that was attached to a green bean leaf. The number of eggs laid was determined until day 15. For T. vaporariorum and B. tabaci, respectively, each value represents the mean ± S.E. of eggs laid by 23–40 and 20–37, separate replicates (whitefly pairs). For each species of whitefly, a one-way ANOVA (α = 0.05) was used to determine if there were any significant differences among the four groups, i.e, the control and the three experimental groups. Since for T. vaporariorum as well as B. tabaci, P was >0.05, the Tukey’s comparison of means test was not performed.
